Sri Lanka Coir & Allied Products Manufacturers Association-SLACMA

Since the year 2000, SLACMA had been in existence, as one of the constituent bodies functioning under the aegis of the National Agribusiness Council – NAC.


SLACMA represents manufacturers of coir fibre , the processors of bye products of coir fibre and a broad spectrum of manufacturers of allied products of coir fibre.


Besides,the domestic market ,there is a recognized export market for raw fibre in virgin form , and value added bye products of fibre along side the wide range of value added products from coir fiber.

Summary of Objectives


• To continue to be an able representative body of the sector.
• Strive to be an active player in matters concerning the sector.
• To maintain a fertile dialogue with the government on state policy related to the sector and , fiscal matters pertaining to exports and imported inputs.
• Initiate a continuous process of overall development from top to the grass root level of the value chain .
• Attempt to create strategy to achieve enhanced productivity, competitive quality standards , improved marketability thereby enhance the importance of the industry.
• Actively collaborate with the state to maintain a steady growth of the sector .
• To ensure a steady contribution from the sector to the GDP growth of the country.
• To explore new global markets.

Focus on current activity


• Developing a strong lobby on the current increase of cess on brushes .
• To represent matters concerning delay of payment of duty rebates and input credit on VAT.
• To actively support the Coir Council International –CCI in the Model Mill project and ensure the speedy implementation of the “road map” for betterment of the sector.
• To work in conjunction with the ITI and the local universities on research for process improvement with emphasis on productivity, product improvement and minimizing identified hazards in the sector.
• To continue to be an active task participant in the projects initiated by the Ministry of Industries to mechanize yarn spinning and yarn weaving at rural level.
• To liaise with the Export Development Board –EDB and the Coconut Development Board –CDA , to explore new export markets.
• Prompt the EDB and The CDA to organize participation at major trade fairs and explore avenues to sponsor deserving exporters to such exposure.
• To initiate a programme of training cum reorientation on export marketing , gainful export pricing and customs procedures.
• To commence a membership enhancement programme.
