Coir Council International
The Coir Industry identified the need to institute an apex
body, “Coir Council International” (CCI), dedicated to promoting
growth and development of the industry – managed by the private sector
with participation from the public sector. The Council with industry wide
representation will be the voice, eyes and ears of the Sri Lankan coir industry
in local and International forums.
This initiative thus offers the potential of a powerful tool to all coir sector
stakeholders by virtue of it’s being the apex organization with a mandate
from the entire industry.
The Coir Council International was established in June 2004.
The Mission
“Support the Sri Lankan coir industry improve competitiveness and achieve
viability through innovation, coordinated research, enhanced market intelligence,
workforce development and effective presentation”.
Our objectives :
• Unifying body of all segments of the value chain and provide greater
industry lobbying power
• Private sector participation in decisions related
to industry funds and future
• Focused and coordinated efforts in R & D, market
development, workforce development and training
• Lobbying for better global and local policy environment
• Monitor the progress and coordination of all coir
industry initiatives, maximizing resource utilization
Members :
• The Ceylon Coir Fibre Exporters’ Association, Sri Lanka Coir
and Allied Products Manufacturers Association, Millter’s Association
(Seemasahitha (Janatha) Eksath Kohu Nishpadakainge Apanayana Sanwardana Samagama
and Kohukarmantha Himiyange Sahayogatha Samithiga) and Coconut Grower’s
Association of Sri Lanka are the member associations.
• The public sector and academia is represented through
the Coconut Development Authority (CDA), Coconut Research Institute (CRI),
Ministry of Enterprise Development and the Industrial Technology Institute
(ITI).
