Kandy Vanilla Growers Association (KVGA)

In 1997 with the assistance of AgEnt project Kandy Vanilla Growers Association was created to introduce this high value crop in a commercial scale and sustain the cultivators. KVGA is assisted by NAC in its mission to the society.

Mission

With the identification of suitable areas for vanilla cultivation and obtaining the maximum community corporation organizes the farmers to take action on land conservation
and cultivate environmentally friendly organic vanilla and produce high quality
Vanilla to local and export market to obtain economical strength there
by crate humane, proud entrepreneurial farmers contributing to the
development of the country

Objectives

• Introduce a new economical crop to uplift the economy
• Organize Vanilla farmers and provide advisory services, planting materials and marketing to encourage them
• To provide welfare to the cultivators and their families
• Creating Agricultural Entrepreneurs

Organizational Structure

Activities at the village level through village organizations

Main Association is managed by committee consisting of President M.B Madugalle, Secretary, Treasurer and 30 other Committee members.
Currently there are 91 village organizations in 5 districts representing 2300 vanilla farmers.

• Introducing vanilla as a commercial crop to the large land owners
• Introducing vanilla as a home garden crop to the small holders
• Training school levers through the schools
• Establishing model cultivation in temples
• Creating vanilla village per AGA area
• Training on Establishment, Shade management and pollination
• Buy vanilla though village organization on cash payment basis
• Export though the association.
