Salmonella control in the growing broiler
Measures need to be employed in the breeder house, at the hatchery and on the growing farm.
Top tips for salmonella control
Breeders
Vaccinate all breeding birds. Use competitive exclusion products (if permitted)
Hatchery
Timed disinfectant fogging or electrostatic spraying. Spray disinfectant every 30 minutes during setting and hatching. Thorough cleaning and sanitising of settlers and hatchers. Regular monitoring for efficacy.
Growing farm
Vaccinate chicks. Use competitive exclusion products (if permitted). Acidify drinking water prior to and during feed withdrawal. Monitor feed withdrawal time. Thorough washing and sanitising of transport crates.
